Disabled Children Demand To Be Heard

The Children's Society recently made a submission and responded to the House of Commons Education and Skills Committee inquiry into Special Educational Needs.

Kathy Evans, Policy Director at The Children's Society, said: "We welcome the recommendation that Government needs to pay more attention to making sure that the voices of disabled children and young people are heard in the reviewing, planning and designing of education services for them.

"Despite a lot of good intentions, the experience of disabled children is that they are rarely involved in decisions about their education. We want to see more support especially for children with communication needs who can be placed away from home without being involved in the decision. This needs to be about pupil choice and involvement becoming a reality."
